How lucky are we! Not only are we able to enjoy the most stunning views over Broad Haven’s wonderful beach from the comfort of our home but we can also rest easy in the knowledge that Broad Haven has once again been awarded Blue Flag status. Definitely one of the finest in Pembrokeshire, Broad Haven’s beautiful Blue Flag beach is the perfect paradise for family fun whatever the weather. Bue flag status is ....
Blue Flag status is a wonderful accolade as it gives you the assurance that the water you and your family are swimming in meets the most stringent of criteria. Having coastguards on hand during the busy summer months also gives peace of mind that your children are swimming in the safest possible area and have experts on hand if help is needed. Nothing however is better than teaching your children a very healthy respect for the powers of the sea from a very young age.
Whilst high tide reaches right up to the top of the beach once it begins to ebb a huge expanse of sand is revealed that is the ideal setting for sand castles, cricket, footie or flying kites. At low tide you can walk right around the headland across Settlands Bay to Little Haven where you will find two harbourside pubs - The Swan and The Castle as well as Lobster & Mor a seafood cafe tht does the most amazing crab sandwiches and whole cooked lobsters. St Bride's Inn just around the corner is a tradtional and very friendly local that offers a great range of real ales and home cooked food.
Our four grandchildren absolutely love rock pooling. The rock pools at the north end of the beach below the cliffs never disappoint with their wealth of exciting marine life. The girls love to search for sea anemones, periwinkles, shrimps and crabs. Did you know that barnacles are both boys and girls at one and the same time and that they spend their lives attached to rocks by their head. Anemones only have one opening that serves both for food to go in and waste to go out! And did you know that star fish are so cool - if they lose an arm they can grow another one! Can you find these?
If you are up for something more energetic, Haven Sports in the centre of the village (http://www.havensports.co.uk) has a wide range water sports gear to hire. So how about hiring a paddle board or a kayak and paddling along secret strips of the coastline that are only visible form the water? The diversity of geology marking the coatline of Pembrokeshire played a role in the area being designated the UK's only coastal National Park.
Check out the beautiful coastline in our drone video .
Beach View Cottages are just a stone’s throw from the Pembrokeshire Coast Path that according to Lonely Planet is “one of the best long distance trails in the world”. If you don’t quite feel up to tackling the entire 186 miles there are plenty of shorter walks to enjoy.
If you don’t want to walk quite so far then the Ocean Bar just off the beach does the most delicious ice cream!
